Congee and Chopsticks

I’ve moved into a house with two other Asians and one other white person, all three of whom are Canadian and thus used to Asian cuisine. I’ve mentioned before how I’m used to eating at places where I can’t read the menu. And I’m used to trying foods I’ve never heard of before.

Congee is one of those foods.

It’s a water and rice dish more akin to American porridge than Cream of Wheat. And it is surprisingly good. It was made plain, which was bland but after some salt it was better. I’m told it can be mixed with any number of ingredients so will have to try that next time.

The other thing I’ve discovered is that I am no longer adept at using white people utensils, like forks. I’m more comfortable with chopsticks. Who knew?
