Pink Hues are the New White

House hunting, it turns out, is more taxing than apartment hunting but also more fun as there are other with whom to share the experience. You can collectively laugh at the absurdity of a neighborhood as you drive out without even looking at the house.

We’ve seen a lot of houses already, and one thing I’ve noticed is that pink hues, or shades of pink, are the new white. The walls of most of the houses we have seen have been some shade of pink. Off pink, if you will, light pink and just pink. Some are subtle, others decidedly less subtle. My future roommates don’t seem to notice. Pink apparently is typical. My future roommates don’t notice it. Perhaps it’s the pink bathroom in my apartment that makes pink stand out for me. Or the pink room that was my freshman college dorm room.

Not all rooms in the houses were pink. There was a house with a blue room. A blue-grey really. Another house had a green room. Really green. I can’t guess what prompted the blue-grey or green rooms, but to each his own, as they say.

I wonder if pink hues are cheaper than white or off-white in Canada, or if hues of pink have some significance in the Asian culture. All of the houses we’ve seen have Asian owners or property managers which is not surprising. And I consider myself fortunate to have two good friends who speak the language, which makes a big difference.

The house hunt continues…
