New Tradition, Perhaps: #birthdaybrunch @Tomahawkbbq

It came and went. And was exactly what I wanted. A gathering of friends for good food and good conversation.

Tomahawk Restaurant is a famous establishment, and it certainly lived up to its name. It’s a small place, cozy, with a tribal, Native American theme. There’s a Canadian word for it, I just can’t remember it at the moment. It reminded me of the Cracker Barrel back home. That same kind of down home, comfortable feel. The staff was fantastic. They were able to group three tables together, and the 12 of us split up well.

The food is good. Excellent breakfast spot. It was hard to pick actually. I debated between the Traditional, a bacon and egg omelet and French Toast. I settled on the Traditional:

Just perfect! Fluffy pancakes. Perfectly scrambled eggs and just the right spiciness to breakfast sausage. And just the right sized breakfast. Coupled with a cup of coffee and a glass of orange juice, perfect #birthdaybrunch food.

I confess I was a little worried on mixing groups. People from work with members of the softball team. One never knows how groups will mix, but this one turned out well. Everyone seemed to be having a good time, which was confirmed later via messages. That made my day. I appreciate everyone coming out for me, but the bigger win is everyone really getting along, not for the sake of a birthday.

Tomahawk knew ahead of time it was my birthday. I had emailed a week ago to inquire about reservations. They don’t take them, but true to their word, they did an excellent job accommodating the whole group. And unexpectedly, they didn’t let me go home empty handed:

So here it is, 5pm on my birthday, and it’s been great. I’ve got some good people I can call my friends here in Vancouver.

#birthdaybrunch might very well become a tradition.

And now I should go find some candles so I can put them on the last half of a blueberry pie, and blow them out.
