You know a position has reached a certain point when a big company hosts a summit. Ragan Communications is a big PR firm that is hosting a Social Media and Community Managers Summit. My boss agreed I should attend so here I sit, on a Metra train for the Loop. W00T!
It has been a long time since I’ve ridden Metra, and watching the scenery go by I already feel at home. And I’m rather excited to get to see the Gleacher Center, a snazzy building along the Chicago River that is the University of Chicago School of Business. I’ve walked by it many times, and around it a few. Hard to miss when cutting through the court yard in front of the MBC Tower.
I see going back to edit #wordpress #android creates overlapping text. Wonder if it’ll post that way.
I confess that conversations around community management can be annoying. It’s not a new position as they’ve been around since there were gamer forums. Big difference now is that it’s a paid position instead of volunteer. No one quite knows in what box to put community management. Some out it in marketing. Some in customer support. If have enough staff, it’s in both. But everyone is getting ahead of themselves, it seems, jumping on the bandwagon without thinking if it’s going in the proper direction.
I’m curious to see what gets fleshed out at this summit, and what ideas percolate to the surface.
And it’s in Chicago, so I’m really happy about that. Fall in Chicago is magnificent.
I’m equally excited to attend the conference. I know a number of people speaking, some only through Twitter and some through Twitter and real life.
