Finally. A holiday in Canada I know! It’s also a US holiday.
One of the things I explain, often, is the skewed concept of “holiday” or “vacation” in the States. I didn’t fully appreciate the disparity until whatever day off occurred this month. In the States, we cram holidays into the last half of the year.
Memorial Day in May. 4th of July. Labor Day. Thanksgiving. Christmas. New Year’s. Then nothing until Memorial Day.
Workaholic Nation.
I remember Labor Day as being a nice weekend. Except when #freelancing as, well, “weekend” was subjective as was “relaxing.” Especially in 2009. But it was generally a nice, uneventful weekend. Time to spend with friends and family who all had to go back to work or school the next week.
I have idea how they celebrate Labor Day in Canada. And I should point out the proper Canadian spelling: L-a-b-o-u-r. I’ll have really crossed when I start putting “u” in words like “labor” and “color.”
Which reminds me, the States is quite steadfast in declaring its independence. Check not cheque. Color not colour. Every opportunity must be taken to declare independence.
Anyway.
So. Labor Day weekend.
Way back when, I got included in a Groupon for river rafting for this weekend. Sunday turned out to be the better day for all. It’s somewhere past Chiliwhack which means a really early morning. Before that though, there is a seafood bash.
Both events are a mix of work mates and softball teammates, along with a bunch of people I’ve never met before. Should be fun.
Monday will be spent resting and recuperating.
Have a safe and fun Labor Day!
