Floating Gas Station

Those lights just right-center? That would be a gas station. A Chevron, I believe, in the middle of the water.

It never occurred to me that vessels would need to refuel, or that a floating gas station was possible, let alone actually existed. Makes sense though, no? There were no vessels refueling but there was one coming into the docks.

And there are always some empty container ships idling in English Bay. I’d just never seen one come into port before. Pretty cool.

Vancouver is not a big port city, as far as I know. I have vague recollections of it from my days at Evergreen. And it is thrilling, still, to see Evergreen containers being trucked around Vancouver. Still a sense of pride having worked for that company.

Vancouver is a port city, though, and that seems to have some scenic advantages.

I got a driving tour of Vancouver one night, and we drove through Stanley Park. That image of the floating gas station was taken from there.

Like Chicago, the city looks different from a distance. Not much of a skyline but the building lights are nicely done. Vancouver is a pretty calm city, especially compared to Chicago, but looking back from Stanley Park it looked like it could party.

We drove over the Lions Gate Bridge to North Vancouver and West Vancouver, which is different than the west side of Vancouver. There’s not much across the bridge, except access to the ferries and the road up to Whistler.

Nice drive though. May have to invest in a bike to get out to the other side of Stanley Park. Quite a trek out, and back, otherwise.
