Back home, there’s the Chicago Sport and Social Club, which is a fun way to get active and meet people. I spent summers playing beach volleyball and the winters playing basketball. I joined as an “individual” and was put no a team of other “individuals,” or others who didn’t belong to a corporate or sponsored team. Good times.
So when a workmate inquired about interest in a softball team, I didn’t give it a second thought.
Count me in!
I may live in a sports desert when it comes to professional teams, but if there’s an opportunity to play in a recreation league, I’m in! And check out the view before the start of our second game:
It’s no secret I’m enamored…OK…obsessed, with mountains. They are Vancouver’s best yet often overlooked if not completely ignored, selling point. Even when it rains, as if often downs, the mountains are majestic. Walking up to the diamond, seeing that view..aaahhhh….heaven! And it was perfect baseball/softball weather.
Blue skies. Sunny. A gentle breeze so it wasn’t too hot. Just perfect.
We lost the game, though we played all seven innings this time. We lost our first game in five innings due to the mercy rule. It was cold and windy for the first game. Not all like the above.
I’m encouraged by days like that. Very much what I envisioned Vancouver to be.
