Well, shortest Evernote to date, maybe:
It’s true. I sold it months ago, to a good home. Friend of the family with a son looking for a practice kit to take his chops to the next level.
Lately though, I find myself missing my drum kit. The feel of wood sticks in my fingers, the vibration from the ride.
That was random. Bus driver changed lanes and dropped ppl off in front of traffic at what usually is a stop. Gave a thank you nod to the pickup truck. How’s that for trying to maintain a schedule?
How’s that for a “squirrel!” moment? The bus driver swerved a lane over, then stopped to let passengers off. The pickup that had been two cars ahead of us let them pass. Course, the light was still red so it’s not like vehicles were moving.
Anyway, I miss my drum kit.
I’ve had it since college. A 5-piece Pearl Forum Series kit in metallic green. Fantastic kit. I gradually acquired better cymbals from eBay, swapping the Pearl cymbals that came with the kit for some Zildjian ZBTs and then upgraded those to K-Customs. Acquired some externals, like cowbell, tambourine and shakers. Took good care of all of it. Even kept the Pearl heads in when moving so as not to damage the Remos.
The kit saw me through a lot. Took out a fair amount of aggression on it the summer I got laid off. It helped ease the transition back home. Been kind of a stable piece of transitions, I guess. Probably why I find myself missing it these days.
So what do I do? Why, play air drums of course!
My time with the Shannon Rovers seems to have cured me of looking silly walking around, banging things, even air. Pacing around airports, waiting for the bus, walking places. Even sitting at my desk, I’ll play my air drums.
