Some @evernote Notes: YVR to Toronto

Being accustomed to the Department of Homeland Security and the TSA, I arrived at the Vancouver airport way too early. Like, way way too early. On Sunday. I was through security in the blink of an eye. So I pulled up my trusty Evernote app and jotted down some notes.

It’s 5:30 in the morning on a Sunday, and I find myself at the Vancouver airport. The domestic side this time, which has very different security than the US side. For one thing, US Customs gets cleared in Toronto. Adds a bit of a wrinkle since I’ll have to get through Customs and make my connecting flight. Customs lines, in my experience, are long. The layover is about 2 hours, so hopefully that’ll be enough time.

Bonus of 7am flights is few people at the airport so few people in the security line. There was only one body scanner, not in use, and I didn’t have to take off my shoes nor my belt. No pat down either. Took all of 30 seconds. Coupled with a quicker than expected cab ride and I’ve been at the airport for over an hour already. Somehow I think I’ll pay for this time.cushion connecting through Toronto.

Speaking of Toronto, another airport to add to my list. It occurs to me that I can also add Dulles to my list.

Travel is going to be different now, I see. Kind of weird filling out Canada as my “Country of Residence.” Yet my passport and citizenship is US.

I’m starting to think of some weekend trips, and finding more permanent dwellings. Actually settle in and make the most of my two years. See what there is to see along the West Coast. There’s supposedly a really nice train ride along the coast down to San Francisco. That sounded nice. Will.have to make some trips to Seattle come baseball season, catch some Mariners games. Maybe a longer excursion to San Fran if the Cubs are out this way and I can get tickets.

It’s good I’m thinking ahead a bit. Thinking of fun things to do. Quite different than thinking of my next job, next client or looking for permanent employment. The switch in thinking isn’t easy, or not easy to turn off. But at least I’m conscious of it, more self aware.

It’s easier with a few other things finally settled. Little breathing room. Little perspective.

And I’m seriously over this CBC News loop.

Hey! Guy wearing a Blackhawks jersey. Way to represent!

Will have to wait and see what gets jotted down tomorrow.
